Balanced Being is a personal blog. It collects as little about you as it can get away with. This page explains exactly what that means.
What is collected, and when
If you just read
Nothing that identifies you. There is no advertising, no tracking across other websites, and no third-party marketing cookies. Visitor numbers are counted using Vercel Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not build a profile of you — it records the page visited, roughly where in the world the request came from, and what kind of device it was.
If you subscribe to the newsletter
Your email address is stored, along with the date you subscribed and which page you subscribed from. Delivery is handled by Kit, so your address is also stored with them. You will be asked to confirm by email before you receive anything, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
If you leave a comment
Your name, your email address and your comment are stored. Your name and comment are shown publicly once approved. Your email address is never shown publicly — it exists only so Skyler can reply. A one-way scrambled version of your IP address is stored to prevent spam; the address itself is not kept and the scrambled version cannot be turned back into one.
If you use the contact form
Your name, email address and message are stored so the message is not lost, and a copy is emailed to Skyler through Resend. This is used only to reply to you. It is never added to the newsletter.
Who else is involved
- Vercel — hosts the website and counts visits
- Railway — hosts the database where the above is stored
- Kit — sends the newsletter
- Resend — sends contact-form messages
- Cloudflare — provides the domain name and the spam check on forms
None of these companies is permitted to use your information for their own marketing.
How long things are kept
- Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe
- Comments: for as long as the post is published
- Contact messages: up to two years, then deleted
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of anything held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Just get in touch and say what you would like. There is no form to fill in and no charge.
Children
This site is not aimed at children under 16 and does not knowingly collect information about them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it.
